- All salts are ionic compounds.

- When a metal ions displaces the hydrogen ion of an acid, a salt is formed.
Preparation of a soluble salt
Zinc
MAZIT
Magnesium
Aluminum
Iron
Tin
Preparation of an insoluble salt
1. Precipitation = Soluble salt + soluble salt --> Insoluble salt + Soluble Salt
2. Direct combination = Element +Element/Compound -(heat)-> Insoluble Salt
Types of Salts
NORMAL SALTS - Formed when all replaceable hydrogen ions in the acid have been completely replaced by metallic ions.
ACID SALTS - Formed when replaceable hydrogen ions in acids are only partially replaced by a metal. They are only produced by acids containing more than one replaceable hydrogen ion.
BASIC SALTS - Contain the hydroxide ion, and are formed when there is insufficient supply of acid to complete neutralization of base
pH = -log(H+) - concentration of hydrogen
